Reliable syncing
Getting the best results
Complete the first checklist once, then follow the three simple habits below.
Set up once
-
1
Install the iPhone app
Download Health Assistant Link from the App Store and complete the initial setup.
-
2
Accept all requested permissions
Allow the Health and system permissions requested during setup so enabled features can work.
-
3
Use your external Home Assistant URL
Connect using the secure URL that reaches your Home Assistant when you are away from home.
-
4
Turn on backfill
Enable backfill in the app so missed readings can be recovered with their original times.
-
5
Install the Apple Watch app
Keep the Watch companion installed to support syncing while your iPhone is locked.
-
6
Add the watch face complication
Add the moon-icon Health Assistant complication to the watch face you wear, including overnight. It lets your Apple Watch sync much more often, filling overnight gaps in heart rate and other readings. It only helps on the face you’re actually wearing.
-
7
Add a Lock Screen widget
Use one of the Health Assistant Link widgets on your iPhone Lock Screen.
Keep it running well
- Keep the iPhone app open in the background.Do not force-close or swipe it away.
- Keep the Apple Watch app open in the background.Leave it available so it can assist when the phone is locked.
- Open the iPhone app once a day.You can use a Shortcut to open it briefly, then leave it in the background again.
